At The Cudgee, sustainability means making considered use of what already exists, reducing our environmental impact and supporting the community around us.
We renewed an established Mudgee motel rather than demolishing and rebuilding—retaining its buildings, 16 guest rooms, swimming pool, mature gardens and core infrastructure.
Renewing an existing place.
The Cudgee was created by transforming an established motel rather than demolishing it and starting again.
We retained and renewed the existing buildings, 16 guest rooms, swimming pool, mature gardens, parking and core infrastructure. This extended the life of the property and reduced the demolition and new construction required.
Using energy more efficiently.
Solar generation helps reduce our reliance on grid electricity. Energy-efficient LED lighting and reverse-cycle air conditioning further reduce the energy required to operate the property and keep guests comfortable.
Choosing materials with care.
Our guest rooms feature cork flooring—a renewable material selected for its durability, warmth and acoustic qualities.
Australian-made furniture and Australian art, including work connected to Mudgee and the surrounding region, give each room a sense of place while supporting Australian makers and creative businesses.
Conserving water.
Water-efficient taps, toilets and shower heads help reduce water consumption throughout the property.
Our linen and towel reuse arrangements give guests a simple way to help conserve both water and energy during their stay. Water-wise management of the established gardens also supports more responsible water use.
Reducing waste.
Recycling and waste separation form part of our everyday operations.
We have also introduced bulk or refillable guest amenities and reduced single-use packaging, helping to avoid unnecessary waste without compromising guest comfort.
Supporting Mudgee
We want the benefits of a stay at The Cudgee to extend into the wider community.
We employ local staff and use local suppliers wherever possible.
Through our website, social media, guest information and personal recommendations, we encourage visitors to discover local wineries, restaurants, cafés, producers and experiences.
